With its new, attractive white and green German beerhouse look, German-style beer and barbecued treats, this pleasant new night spot already looks set to gain a good regular following. Opened by PJ McKenna of PJ's Cafe and McKenna's Irish bar (located a couple meters away) in what used to be the Soho Street Wine & Jazz Cafe, BB features cozy first and second floor inside areas with a small bar, tables and a flat-screen TV showing sports. Even better for Taichung's usually-pleasant evenings are the various umbrella-shaded outdoor tables. Another major dine-in/take-out menu item here is rotisserie-style chickens, on full display as they cook in a roaster. Naturally, with PJ's Cafe next door, patrons can also enjoy a full range of other items, from Philly Cheese Steaks to Tex-Mex standards. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Andy Tsao

A. BB's menu revolves around tasty, reasonably-priced barbecued treats like the NT$120 Bratwurst sausages or chicken, and the very tasty BB Special Shrimp (NT$100, pictured), wrapped in savory bacon with pepperjack cheese and jalapeno peppers. All this goes perfectly BB's on-tap German-style Pils (NT$150, 500cc), craft-brewed by Deluxe Beer.

B. Most BB customers enjoy sitting outside, as PJ and his staff grill and serve.

BB German-Style Microbrew & BBQC. BB is the latest venture for Irish-American bar and restaurant owner PJ McKenna, one of Taichung's longest-running dining/nightlife foreign proprietors.
