When it comes to a truly excellent barbeque, the freshness and cut of the meat is not all that matters, as cooking heat and skills are also important. At Nagatsuki Yakiniku, you get to experience professional Japanese barbeque techniques, in addition to sweet, juicy and tender meat. All ingredients are cooked plain and seasoned afterward in front of you. The menu includes appealing dishes such as Salt & Pepper Pork Neck (NT$180) and Miso Flavored Intestines (NT$140). The popular Barbeque Beef Belly (NT$260) is also a must-order dish, with beef lightly seasoned, grilled until brown and served with lemon juice or chopped scallions. --By Niang Chen, translated by Naomi Lai

A. This establishment is a combination of a delicious barbeque, izakaya (sake house) and service in fluent Japanese, offering diners a modern Japanese-style dining experience for dinner and late-night meals.

B. An important barbeque trick is to use high heat for thin cuts and low heat for thick cuts. The thin slices of the Salt & Scallion Beef Tongue (NT$220) are cooked on the grill with thinly-sliced scallions to a light brown color. The crisp, spicy scallions greatly complement the juicy, aromatic meat in this pleasing dish.

Nagatsuki YakinikuC. To enjoy an evening over fat, grilled prawns and a glass of beer, a wonderful combination offered by Nagatsuki is the Wild Prawns (NT$400) and Orion Draft Beer (NT$140)--an Okinawan brew favored by female diners.
