Located on the front side of the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts on beautiful WuQuan Parkway, Le jardin de Giverny is an exotic French restaurant that is just about to celebrate its 12-year anniversary. Over the years along the parkway, a lot of restaurants and small eateries have come and gone. This restaurant trend is reflective of all Taichung, so when you see an established, long-standing place like Le jardin de Giverny, you've got to know they're doing something right!
The popularity of this classy French bistro has kept people coming back for more than a decade, thanks to its menu and ambiance--both interior and exterior. Most people driving by Giverny are intrigued by the look of the place. And with large wooden windows, palm trees, hanging flowers, big patches of puffy grass, and a two-story Van Gogh print, why wouldn't they be excited to see what the bistro has to offer?
Devotees might remember how the restaurant was years ago--the food was served on large, ceramic dishes and the favorites were always Beef Stew and Seafood Stew. As the years have passed, so have changes at the restaurant. They don't serve these stew dishes anymore; local tastes have changed, just like the interior of Le jardin de Giverny.
Now the restaurant is home to a cozy bakery, so customers can enjoy the freshest, most delicious breads. A French chef is in charge of the kitchen, adding another element of authenticity to the cuisine they serve. The whole feel of the place is resembles something out of a bistro in the French countryside. Not only is it a great place for dining, but it is also a nice place in which to chat and relax with neighbors and friends. Plus, when you compare food quality and portion size to prices, you realize that you can really enjoy a nice meal here without spending too much money.
It is a testament to the city that the area around the art museum is always growing, changing and reforming itself--usually for the better. If you are lucky enough to live around WuQuan Parkway, one of the most scenic, classy parts of Taichung, perhaps you can find solace in the fact that, although everything else moves on, Le jardin de Giverny is still there--ready to take you in and fill you with a little bit of France, right here in Taiwan.
