In Casa Restaurant

In Casa Restaurant

334, HuaMei St
停業 Closed

South African Gertie Grotius' cooking gained fame while she helped out in kitchens at fM and The Londoner. Now she's running her own kitchen at In Casa, in a partnership with owner Grace Chiang. This cozy, classy restaurant--facing the canal just off of GongYi Road--exudes a warm inviting ambiance and has 20 seats downstairs. Upstairs there is more seating and the wooden floors are cleared for weekly Saturday 9 p.m. Salsa Nights and other functions. The menu is a mix of international cuisine, with nothing exceeding NT$400. Main entrees include Roast Lamb Chop (NT$300); Red Wine Steak (NT$400), made with a 300-gram fillet; and NT$280 Curry Fish, a South African dish of Indian origin, served hot or cold. There are burgers (beef, chicken, veggie), various salads, and snacks/appetizers like the unique NT$180 Fondue--with cheese/wine/garlic sauce and bread, and that Canadian favorite, Poutine (NT$150). From 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, various weekend brunch items are offered, such as an English breakfast and omelets. Coffees (NT$100-140) come in big 370cc mugs, and there are also German fruit teas, Assam milk teas, various flavored cacao (cocoa) drinks (NT$140), wines, beers (NT$130), cocktails and other liquors. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
