The European restaurant ə`maand stood proudly amidst a DaYing Street residential area, with its deep ocean-blue colors strikingly framing the windows and looking into the interior. Through these, I could see some of this establishment's collection of fine wines and champagne. Thick pillars decorated with numerous culinary photos also framed the front of the restaurant, along with an outside seating area.
Inside, the white walls with blue beams reminded me of buildings in Europe. Retro European posters and several pieces of artwork on the walls added character. A wooden staircase surrounded by brick walls descended to an underground dining area, where customers can hold private parties.
While observing my surroundings, I was warmly introduced to Chef Yang, who wore a soft yet confident smile. He has been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years and has worked both the front-end and the kitchen side of restaurants. Complete understanding of the workings of a restaurant takes his guests to the next level of dining experiences. This includes things like Chef Yang's flambe of fresh live lobster, accompanied with white wine sauce, at tablesides (reservation recommended).
ə`maand offers set lunch and dinner menus as well as an a la carte menu, all which change seasonally. Lunch set menus start at NT$790, while dinner sets start at NT$990. All sets include the chef's special soup, seasonal garden salad and a French first course, which frequently changes, according to what the chef sees fresh in the market. All this is followed by two creative main courses and a delightful dessert. One of the great dishes from the set menus was Grilled Pork Chop with Truffle. The pairing of the succulently-sweet pork with the pungent flavor of truffles was a winning combination. After a relaxing dinner, you can enjoy rich, silky smooth chocolate fondue and good conversation around the table.
Although Taichung has so many new restaurants opening, few can match the tasteful dining experience that the Restaurant `maand can offer. Whether you want to enjoy fine wines with a delightful meal, celebrate your anniversary, or simply savor a memorable dining experience, this place offers what you're looking for. |
