Ice cream lovers worried about gaining extra kilos will be happy to discover this new home-grown ice cream, produced by former surfboard maker Chen Ching-shi. The fit-looking Chen (who surfs himself) says he was inspired to produce his own brand of low-fat, low-sugar, all-natural ice cream during his many business trips abroad, where he repeatedly witnessed the popularity of ice cream--and the extra pounds that it produced among consumers. After repeatedly experimenting, he has come up with an ice cream that is healthy, less sweet but still tasty. There are 20 flavors--including rum raisin, strawberry, raspberry, red cherry, black sesame, lemon, walnut chocolate, mint, coffee, and mango--and Chen says that new flavors will be added regularly. A scoop sells for NT$50, with addditional scoops only NT$25 each. There is also Taiwanese-style shaved ice (NT$25 for 3 scoops), covered with syrups and toppings. Customers can buy take-out ice cream in 100-gram or larger containers, and there is delivery service for nearby areas. Chen's little outlet is located just off of JinHua North Road and he has plans to expand, so keep your eyes open for other Relish Ice Cream branches in the future. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
