Xiamuni is the newest restaurant brand to be unveiled by the Wang Group, famous for its Wang Steakhouse and other outlets. Xiamuni's first Taichung branch follows the original restaurant which opened in Taipei a year ago. What sets this restaurant apart from other teppanyaki eateries is its European-style ambiance, ingredients and food presentation, as well as a more private-feeling dining atmosphere. Diners still sit at traditional-looking teppanyaki stations, each seating two to 10 people, either in the spacious, high-ceilinged, blue-lit first floor, or on the cozier third floor. Although there are a la carte menu selections, most diners opt for the NT$980 lunch/dinner set, which is very filling. Besides an appetizer, soup, lemon sorbet, vegetables, Sakura Shrimp Fried Rice, fruit, dessert and drink, diners select their soup (like Truffle Onion), salad, and main course, including Matsumoto Pork, Roasted Beef Ribeye, or Brandy Duck Breast. Dessert and coffee/tea are taken in an attractive lounge on the second floor, more conducive to relaxing and chatting. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Ann Lee
