The WuQuan (Art Museum) Parkway now has a Thai restaurant with the opening of Leelavadee (the Thai name for the plumeria flower). The restaurant's two-floor building, previously occupied by Herbs Kitchen Provence, has been completed redecorated with a wood facade and nice exterior lighting. The spacious interior, seating 150, features dark-wood Thai carvings on the walls, green Thai silk tablecloths and other touches. According to management, the idea is to present one of Taichung's biggest selections of Thai cuisine in an upscale Western-style ambiance, which extends to classy dishware and cutlery. Despite the nice setting, prices here are very reasonable with most entrees in the NT$250 to NT$350 range. Popular items on the very big menu include Fried Crab with Curry (NT$400), Deep Fried Fish with Greens (NT$350), the very thick Thai-Style Shrimp Cakes (NT$250/10 pieces), and an unusually large soup and salad selection. These include Green Papaya Salad and the traditional Roast Beef Salad, made with sirloin beef. There are plenty of drinks, too, such as Thai-Style Ice Tea (NT$60), a lime-flavored Lemon Juice, Thai Singha Beer, and other juices. Thanks to its size, Leelavadee welcomes groups and large gatherings.
