Those looking for an original taste of Ireland should head to this cosy, two-floor place for a the classic Irish pub experience. The well-known American owner, P.J. McKenna, is very proud of his Irish heritage and pays attention to every very little detail to provide an authentic family-style Irish ambiance. Everything is here: the Irish music, the green colours, Irish maps and flags, the beer and, of course, delicious food. The ground floor of this non-smoking restaurant has a wooden bar and large, comfortable booths. Upstairs is an intimate, low-ceilinged room with six tables and a wall overflowing with books. McKenna's offers the only Murphy's beer on tap in Taichung, and there is also refreshing, bottled Guinness. Those who are hungry will be happy with the food, prepared by the highly experienced chef. For only NT$195, you can enjoy one of the traditional Irish dishes on the menu, including Lamb and Red Wine, Guinness Gravy Irish Stew, the mouth-watering Bangers and Mash, and a hearty Meat Loaf and Mash. Finally, there is McKenna' signature dish, a beef, chicken or vegetarian three-mushroom (oyster, button and shiitake) Shepherd's Pie. McKenna's is near the owner's other business, PJ's Cafe, on "Soho Street", just off of DaYe Road.
