Stop by Yu Ji Roast Duck any time--morning, noon or night--and you will see crowds of people, waiting for a chance to enjoy some of Taichung's tastiest, most authentic Peking Duck. Most of these people have heard about Yu Ji via word-of-mouth and come back again and again for the exceptional flavors here.

Owner Mr. Wang has been in the roast duck business for the past 20 to 30 years and presents his roast ducks with a passion and pride. The use of traditional duck-roasting techniques from mainland China ensures that his customers enjoy some of the most authentic Peking Duck to be found.

All ducks are carefully selected, thanks to a contract signed each year with certified southern Taiwan duck farmers to supply Yu Ji with fowl that are required to weigh at least 3 to 3.5 kilograms. The ducks are prepared with specially selected Chinese medicinal herbs and marinated for 36 hours, so that the sauces evenly soak into the meat. The ducks are roasted in the traditional way, in ovens set at 300 degrees and using Acacia Koa charcoal, for 30 to 40 minutes. This produces fragrant, delicious, shiny roast ducks.

Handmade dough wraps are used to bundle two slices of crispy, juicy duck meat, along with some fresh, crispy spring onions and a dribble of sweet sauce, to create a symphony of flavors that will definitely delight your taste buds. Leftover duck meat is stir-fried with spring onions, garlic, spicy red peppers, and Chinese basil for another sensational dish that goes down well with a fresh cold beer.

Half a roast duck is NT$180, and a whole duck is NT$350, including dough wraps, Chinese green onions and sweet sauce. The restaurant also offers stewed duck's wings, duck's feet and chicken feet, as well as other related products such as pickled vegetables and chili sauce. All these products are carefully made by Mr. Wang and are very popular with customers.
Although you can't sit and dine here, a taste of the great Peking Duck and other delicacies will no doubt have you standing in line with Yu Ji Roast Duck's many other fans.
