A mottled front door, a large uneven table,
peeling walls if these sights catch you by surprise, then
wait till you see the red bed, the large mosquito net, the
rice mill and the vegetable cupboard. Owner Mr. Fan explains
that this old farmer's house was originally redecorated for
their own recreational purposes but, with friends and family
coming to visit all the time, the place was unintentionally
transformed into a unique drinking place. There are no printed
menus here; a menu with over 30 different basic dishes is
saved in Mr. Fan's memory. The moment guests are seated, he
will name the vegetables, seafood, meat and soup dishes available
for guests to choose from. Regular customers will definitely
choose the Charcoal Hot Pot with Garlic Squid (NT$450), the
Barbequed Salted Pork (NT$150), the Quick Boiled Bao Cai Vegetables
(NT$120), the basic Radish Cakes (NT$40) and the Pork Fat
Rice (NT$20). Depending on the size of the party, the owner
will select just the right number of dishes. Alcoholic drinks
are available; although the selection is not wide, Taiwan
Beer is definitely available. The owner said that if guests
wish to drink other kinds of alcohol, they are happy to lend
you their scooter to ride to the nearby grocery store and
buy them.
