The name of this place means "countryside
cuisine" in Taiwanese, and it is very "countryside"
indeed. The entire farmhouse is situated in a field under
a lychee tree. The owner, Mr. Xie Fa-Yue, is a trained chef
and was busy preparing dishes for customers in the kitchen
while being interviewed. His garden provides fresh vegetables
that he uses in his cooking. The menu is divided into several
main categories: fried green vegetables (NT$70), including
Guei Niao, baby asparagus and yam leaves; local delicacies
(NT$250), including Deep Fried Grasshoppers and even Deep
Fried Bee Chrysalis; and seafood dishes (NT$150) such as Roasted
Edible Frogs and Fried Calamari. The owner recommends the
Crispy Pork's Knuckle (NT$450) which he is very proud of.
The pork's knuckle is marinated in sauces, then slow cooked
for four hours; malt is dribbled on top then deep fried before
this succulent dish is presented on the table. (It is best
to call in advance for this order.) The Five Flavored Octopus
Cold Plate (NT$150) is also worth mentioning. The octopus
is boiled first, and then covered in a special five-flavored
sauce that will have you coming back for more. The Crispy
Duck (NT$450) is an entire marinated duck, a dish that can
only be found at a place like this.
