Located at the end of the pedestrian-only SOHO Street (just off of DaYe Rd.), Stix Bar & Grill is a relaxing, reasonably-priced place that exudes an upscale, exotic charm. This is the result of hard work by the owners, who are well-known around town as the organizers of Swank Parties. The bar is half indoor and half outdoor, with tables on both sides. The decor uses dark red walls, Chinese hanging lanterns, candle holders and cushions, with black and gold highlights and low lighting to create a striking, exotic effect that goes well with the Thai and non-Taiwanese Asian food and the music, which ranges from jazz to hip-hop. Drinks are very reasonable, starting with the NT$100 well drinks (like Rum & Coke) and going up to the NT$160 large bottles of Erdinger beer. The menu is an interesting, international, tasty mix that includes home-style dishes like the Fish Teriyaki with Sesame Seeds (NT$150), Mongul Spiced Lamb Kebab with lemon mint sauce (NT$80), Coconut Breaded Soft-Shell Crab with tartar sauce (NT$220), Potato Skins Stuffed with Sausage, Beef & Pork Quesadilla with Malaysian Curry (NT$120), Greek Salad (NT$180), beef and chicken satay kebabs, and falafels. It all adds up to a relaxing, cheap and enjoyable place to gather with friends. --By Douglas Habecker, translated by Cara Steenstra.
