Connoisseurs
of gourmet dining seeking out the creme de la creme of
French haute cuisine need look no further than Fleur de
Sel, which spares absolutely nothing to provide the finest
experience in "La Cuisine de Francaise". One
of Taichung's finest chefs, Justine Li (also responsible
for Papa Mio Italian Restaurant), oversees every aspect
of this intimate, high-end restaurant, which seats about
30 in a luxurious setting that includes top-end imported
silverware, glassware and dishes and a romantic decor.
The beautifully-presented food here is what you would find
in Paris, with no compromises made to "localize" it.
Chef Li recommends first-timers starting with the NT$980
set menu (in French and Chinese), before moving on to the
NT$1,680 set, which is entirely up to her discretion, but
includes hors d'oeuvres, soup or salad, entree, sherbert,
main course and dessert. A la carte dishes, from the Tournedo
de boeuf et fois gras a la fleur de sel (NT$880) to the
delicious Moelleux au Chocolate a la glace (NT$250) are
also available, and there are 70 mostly-French fine wines.
There is a NT$460 lunch on weekends and daily afternoon
tea time (add NT$120 to drink cost). Parties of over 12
are not accepted and an eight-person VIP room upstairs
is only open to restaurant "regulars". --By Douglas
