Diners
looking for a new Taichung dining option for Mexican cuisine,
as well as other food, should check out this cozy little
eatery, located near the intersection of Jian Xing (Jian
Shing) and Xue Shi (Hsueh Shih) roads. The two owners,
Kelly Chen and Jase Hsieh, met while running separate streetside
stalls, respectively selling waffles and Mexican food,
near Taichung First Boys High School. Joining forces, they
have created a comfortable restaurant, with an attractive
green entrance and decorated inside with hanging dried
corn and red peppers, cacti plants and a Mexican flag.
Hsieh, whose aunt runs a Mexican restaurant in Denver,
provide good, low-priced dishes, such as the Taco Salads
(NT$70-100), Burritos (NT$80-90), the "R&G Special" Citrus
Rice and Grilled Chicken or Ground Beef (NT$150), Mexican
Grilled Chicken Leg Special (NT$150), and Quesadillas (NT$70-100).
Just as important, he has created several good, home-made
sauces, from Salsa to Pico de gallo. On Miss Chen's side
of the business, there are 11 types of eight-inch waffles.
There are sweet flavors like blueberry, peach and maple
sugar, but she says vegetable tuna and bacon salad toppings
are most popular. There are also plenty of coffees (NT$50-150),
teas, juices, NT$80 beers and NT$50 sodas (free refills
for diners). Heading west on JianXing Rd., cross Xue Shi
Rd. and take the first right onto Wu Chang St.; the restaurant
is up and on the left.--By Douglas Habecker, Translated
