Not easy to find, but not easy to forget either. If you are looking for exquisite views, friendly service, beautiful surroundings and excellent food, then take the 30-minute drive and visit the Moon Light Cafe. Situated near the top of Jou-Tong (Barrel) Mt. This location offers one of the best views of Taichung city that can be found anywhere. The building itself is wonderful two storey wooden complex which opens itself up to the western horizon.Grab a table on the terrace or out in the garden and take a deep breath of clean mountain air and take it all in. On clear days it is possible too see all the way to Taichung harbour, but you need not search that far to be taken aback by the scenery. The Moon Light view enables you to take in the surrounding mountaintops, valleys, and farms that engulf your vision.

If you like what you see then you can also venture out for hikes or short walks in the area to get a better look. If you are lucky, you may be able to catch a glimpse of one of the monkeys that have been spotted lurking behind the cafe.

When you have finally caught your breath and are ready to take your eyes off the horizon and focus them on the menu, you will not be disappointed. Owner/ Manager Jennifer Ho and her staff will gladly lead you through the menu that is the creation of a master chef who has been perfecting his craft for more than 30 years. The dishes are Japanese style and include things like, baked eel, sea-cucumber stew, and sirloin style beef. Accompanying these main dishes is a tatsy salad and miso soup (NT$250-480). Drinks include a wide variety of flavourful herbal teas and robust coffees that are a treat to the senses (NT$120-160). Desserts consist of homemade cookies and cheesecakes that will top off a memorable meal (NT$60-90).

For the more adventurous, be sure and ask for advice from the staff and order yourself a one of the many barrels of wines that line the shelves awaiting your approval.

If you are thinking of spending a romantic evening with that special someone, or you just need to get away for the afternoon and re-affirm the beauty that is so close to Taichung city, then hop in your car and make the trip to the Moon Light. It is an experience that you will not forget and one that you will be doing again and again.
