Treasure Box Korean BBQ is no stranger to Korean cuisine, with six restaurants around the island. However, this most recent addition, located in the B1 basement of Tiger City mall, is the first all-you-can-eat style outlet for the chain. The 90-seat restaurant is a pleasant-looking place with its most striking feature being the enormous, rough wooden beams which serve as tables and decor, together with minimalist concrete and glass. The tables come with cooking stations, ventilated by hanging metal pipes. The prices are very simple--NT$269 for lunch Monday through Friday and NT$359 for dinner and Saturday, Sunday and holiday lunches (children are NT$150). The management explains that this eatery is a modern version of traditional Korean barbecue. Diners get a sizable platter, heaped with seven to nine types of quality meat, such as sirloin, beef strips, American bacon, lamb chops, marinated beef, and pork. Once this is barbecued, more can be requested, free of charge. The cooked meat is wrapped with provided garlic, peppers, sauces and other ingredients in big, fresh lettuce leaves, ideally in bite-sized bundles. Side dishes include three types of kimchi, a spicy kimch-based broth and a tasty, slightly-spicy vegetable mixed rice, ladled from passing carts. For an extra NT$300, bottles of imported Korean-style sake can be also enjoyed.
