The original Sugar & Spice re-opened in December after a well-deserved facelift and upgrade. Visitors will immediately notice the large outdoor deck, filled with umbrella-covered tables, perfect for sunny days. Inside, things have improved as well, with the main dining area elevated and separate from the ordering area and displays for bread, cakes, salads and other items. The dining area is more comfortable and upscale than before, with nicer, upholstered seating and other decorative touches. The menu has all the bakery cafe's usual favorites--pasta dishes, coffees and cakes, from Macadamia Nut Coffee Mousse to Pineapple Fruit Tarts. There are more European-style breads and pastries than before, including scones, muffins, bagels and cinnamon rolls. Also new are nine sandwiches, such as Mexican Fajita with chicken or beef, Tuna Salad Croissants (NT$120), and Tuna Salad beef or Thai chicken pita pockets, which all come with soup. Main-course set meals, in the NT$300 range, are available with bread, soup, drink, and a choice of dessert or appetizer, from Escargot to Thai Sweet & Spicy Roasted Beef Salad. There are also many salads, three Western-style breakfast specials (to 10:30 a.m.) and 15 types of homemade chocolates. As before, everything is also available for take-out. Convenient basement parking will also soon be available.
