One among a recent wave of attractive little ice cream restaurants
selling gelato, or Italian ice cream, Firenze is located on the
increasingly-popular pedestrian lane behind the Hsitun Geant hypermarket
(near O'Chang's and O'Brien's). Owner Vincent Hsu studied his craft
in Italy and provides just about every flavor under the sun ("any
flavor you name, we can do"), including Nutella, Banana Milk,
Soya Nocciola, Chocolate (Cioccolato), After Eights (mint), Panna
Cotta, Tiramisu, Green Tea, Bacio (hazelnut chocolate), Spagnola
(black cherry) and various fruit sorbetto (made from fruit juices).
In addition to the ice cream, Firenze also has seven rice and noodle
meals that come with coffee or tea for about NT$150, plus some simple,
cheap Western breakfast options. The coffee choices are made with
excellent Italian Molinari brand beans and include gourmet blends
like Kenya AA, Guatemala SHB and Java WIB. There are also herbal
teas like German Chamomile and French Rose. -- By Douglas Habecker
