For the Feb. 14 start to the spring semester, many city bus routes have been extended to better serve Taichung colleges and high schools, enabling students to enjoy greater access to high-quality city bus service at lower fares.
According to Taichung City Bureau of Transportation Director Lin Liang-tai, bus Nos. 83 and 88 of the Zhonggang Main Line will now pass by Providence University, Hung Kuang University and National Shalu Industrial Vocational Senior High School.
In other improvements to public transportation in Taichung's coastal areas, bus No. 83 will have a sub-route to the Taichung Port Tourist Center, and bus 88 will also have a sub-route to Wuqi Fishing Port, significantly easing transportation for harbor-area commuters and tourists. Zhong Qing Main Line's bus No. 9 will be extended to serve Taichung's Ching Chuan Kang (CCK) Airport, Chia Yang Junior & Senior High School, and National Cingshuei Senior High School.
Elsewhere in Taichung, the Dali to Wufeng Main Line bus No. 50 now stops at National Taichung First Senior High School, National Taiwan College of Physical Education, Shinmin High School. The Chong De Main Line's bus No. 58 also has new stops at Chiao Tai High School, Taichung Industrial High School, and the South District Office, providing people living in Wuqi, Shalu, Qingshui, Daya, Dali, Wufeng and Tanzi districts with a convenient public transportation link downtown.

To mark this change, the first digit of the above bus route numbers has been removed, leaving only three digits (for example, 6100 becomes 100). These routes still will drive past Asia Universtiy, Chaoyang University of Technology, National Taichung University of Education, China Medical University, Tunghai University, the Affiliated Experimental High School of Tunghai University, Shinmin High School, National Taichung First Senior High School, National Taichung Agricultural Senior High School, Ming-Der Girls' Senior High School, Li Zen High School, Youth Senior High School, Wufeng Agricultural & Industrial Vocational High School, Stella Matutina Girls' High School, National Taichung Second Senior High School, Taichung Industrial High School, Ming-Dao High School, and National Changhua Girls' Senior High School.
